SAND CORE MANUFACTURING

Special Packaging for Core Transportation

The packaging of the cores is vital to the success of serving your core needs. We use many different packaging techniques to secure the cores during delivery to the Foundry. We usually palletize the cores using boxes or shrink wrap. We try to minimize the use and cost of the packaging materials and we encourage recycling of the materials as much as possible to keep the costs to a minimum.Type your paragraph here.

Isocure

The Isocure Process, similar to Isoset, uses a blend of dry sand mixed with a two-part resin, blown into a “corebox” to form a sand core. Core boxes are typically made of some type of metal, urethane or wood. A small amount of Amine gas is then purged through the sand and out vents in the core box.  When this gas mixes with the two-part resin the core becomes hard. It is important to distribute the gas evenly throughout the whole box or you may end up with soft or uncured areas.

On average, our Isocure machine runs fifty percent higher productivity over a comparable Isoset machine which improves lead-times for these cores.  Not only does this machine reduce cost with faster cycle times, Isocure sand is about thirty percent less expensive than Isoset sand and we are able to do the core box rigging in-house.

Shell

The Shell Process uses a blend of dry sand, with resin coating applied, blown into a metal “corebox” to form a sand core. Core boxes are typically made of some type of metal, usually iron or aluminum. The core box is heated by natural gas to temperatures of 450 to 600 degrees depending on how the box was constructed. Temperature control and uniform heating of the core box are very important to making a good core.

Shell sand has very good flowability and produces cores of high dimensional accuracy. The cores have excellent surface finish high density and good hot strength which then produces castings with a good surface finish. Shell cores can be made solid or hollow depending on their application.

Capabilities

Core Assembly

We have the ability and experience to assemble cores and ship them to our customers. We can assemble multiple cores together and successfully ship the core sets to the foundry.  We can use supplied fixtures and/or gauges to help with accurate assembly. We have routinely pasted cores and mudded parting lines to aid our customers work flow. Allowing us to do the assembly can help you save on the expense of your people assembling the cores.  Delivered cores will be mold ready which increases your throughput and it will save you floor space by having us store the cores until they are ready to be used.
